`Black Henna` Takes Another Victim
By: Krysteen ~
It has become more common in the last decade that people go on vacation and get a “henna” tattoo, only to find the outcome is a burned scar left from the design. This is because black “henna” is not actual henna, it is made with a chemical dye called para-phenylenediamine (PPD), which causes blistering, open sores, and scarring. Black henna can even have fatal consequences if someone has an allergic reaction to it too.
Mehndi Madness makes a point to highlight the dangers of this product as it could be life threatening. We try to educate the public that it is not true henna, however, there is a product called Jagua, a safe and natural product that has a color close to black.
In an article posted by Daily Mail in February, it recounts the story of a woman who went on vacation in the Dominican Republic and got a $10 black “henna” tattoo. She was left scarred after the design began to blister and swell cause so much pain, she was taken to the hospital.
