A Review of The `National`

The National wrote a news article called, “Dubai Health Authority Issues Warning Over 'Dangerous' Black Henna,” to grow awareness of unnatural henna being used by home practitioners for a darker, longer lasting stain.
The unnatural henna, also known as “black henna,” is mixed with a chemical dye called para-phenylenediamine (PPD), which causes blistering, open sores, and scarring. Black henna, which is not true henna at all, can even have fatal consequences if someone has an allergic reaction to it.
The article states that Dubai Health Authority had issued a warning over the harmful effects and reiterated that black henna is a major health hazard and urged customers to use approved products.
Now approved product are usually sold by salons, and professional henna artists. In Dubai, Salons and beauty centers found to be using illegal product face fines and could be shut down if they continue. Make sure to always ask your henna artist if you are not sure if it is natural henna, and to always buy from a professional source.
Black henna has been banned in the United Arab Emirates for several years. However, Black henna has proven, despite its side-effects, to be popular due to its darker than natural stain and lasts longer than normal henna. It is also banned in other countries such as the United States.
The National, does recommend some safe tips on how to get a darker stain:
❖ To get the darker color, mix black tea or coffee with the natural henna and for a darker red color they can add hibiscus.
