New Year`s Resolutions...Get One?
By: Krysteen Lomonaco ~ 12/15/2008

I love New Yearís Resolutions!  Itís a great opportunity to look at one aspect of your life enough to change it.  For me, the key is to not go overboard by choosing something unrealistic.  I find it best to pick something that Iím looking forward to changing and feel ready to accept the change in my life.  Itís very helpful to state the ways in which this change can be initiated.  Look at the examples below.

*Never answer the question ďPaper or plastic?Ē again.  Bring canvas bags with me to the store.  Keep them in my car.

*Drink more water.  Keep water bottles in the car and in my work bag.  Choose water at restaurants instead of other beverages.  Drink a glass of water before I go to bed.

*Take time just for myself.  Find alone time, sit in the hot tub, go to bed early and read, sit in a park on the way home from work.

*Barter more for the things I need.  Decide what services I have to barter with and what I need.  Join some internet barter groups.  Place ads for needed barter on bulletin boards.

See how easy it can be?  Now, How can henna help facilitate these resolutions?  Easy, use the power of visualization and the fact that it takes 28 days to create or change a habit.  Pick a design and mentally attach a meaning to it.  Sometimes it's easy, for 'drinking more water,' I used the wavy lines of the Aquarius symbol on the inside of the wrist.  Every time I saw it, I remembered why I'd put it there and looked for my water bottle.  Now, years later, I always drink water while in the car and a glass before going to bed.  For 'take some time for myself' I had to be a little more creative by looking into the reason for the resolution.  I saw this change as loving myself and so I used a heart on the palm of my hand.  I added pieces to it and made a beautiful mandala.  I applied it several times over the month.  This gave me enough time to get into the habit of making sure I took some time for myself.  At first it was just a couple times a weeks.  Now, it's everyday, even if it's only a few minutes.

I'd love to hear about the resolutions you come up with and the henna designs you chose to represent them.  Send me an e-mail.  Sharing your resolution or just saying it out loud to yourself can help make it a reality!

Happy Holidays, Krysteen
